Popular Poker Scenes in Movies
Poker is one of the most recognizable casino games in the world. It comes in many different variations that can be played. There are certain elements of poker that make it quite exciting. For, instance the strategy of bluffing can be an important aspect of the game. The game of poker is also quite popular amongst gamers as well as movie makers. Many popular movie scenes have featured the game in some capacity whether it is just one scene or an important part of the plot.
One casino movie that features poker is a 1966 film, “A Big Hand for the Little Lady”, Starring Henry Fonda, this film sees a poor American farmer migrating around the farming communities of California. Along the way, he becomes involved in a poker game with some of the richest men in that part of the US. The problem with this situation is that the farmer really did not good at cards and doesn’t have much money to lose. However, he proceeds with the game. Getting a killer hand dealt to him, he suddenly has a heart attack. Therefore his now widow must step into the game to play his hand. The game has some exciting scenes.
Another movie that provides an excellent look into the world of poker is High Roller: The Stu Ungar Story. Released in 2003, this movie follows the life of Stuart Errol “Stu” Ungar. Ungar became a well known name in poker during his youth. The movie chronicles his career has he eventually falls from grace due to emotional problems. The movie does show Ungar in the World Series of Poker which provides memorable poker playing scenes. The climax of the movie occurs at his Third Series appearance. The movie is basically told as a flashback as Ungar retells his life story to a complete stranger.
